With their fleet of quality kayaks and equipment, Southern Cross Kayaking offer guided tours of the area providing paddling instruction and interesting commentary on the fascinating natural and cultural history of the area. From the long history of habitation of the Wiradjuri people, to the first European settlement, the notorious ‘lady bushranger’ and the incredible tale of the building of the weir that formed the waterway as it exists today, there are stories of interest to people of all ages. Guided tours depart at 9:00am daily and run for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Kayaks are also available for hire so you can explore the area for yourself. There are a range of stable sit inside kayaks available to suit most group and family configurations. All kayak tours and hire include safety equipment, safety briefing, paddle instruction, a map and information on the area, so experience isn’t necessary. Most people of average fitness are able to paddle as far as possible in one direction or the other and return in one hour. A two hour hire gives enough time to see the whole area.

Partners in the business, Cindy and John are both qualified instructors with Australian Canoeing and have many years experience in paddling, instructing and guiding. “We are really looking forward to returning to Dunns Swamp (Ganguddy) for the spring and summer seasons” says John. “Spring is a great time to get out and about and a special time to paddle in such a beautiful area. Paddlers can expect to see a huge variety of bird species and wildlife as they glide along the river through picturesque woodlands and towering sandstone pagoda rock formations”.

“We do recommend a visit to Dunns Swamp (Ganguddy) if you are in the area this holiday.” Adds Cindy. “Whether it’s a camping trip with friends or family, a day trip and picnic, passing through on your way to Sydney or the Blue Mountains or recovering from over indulgence at the Wine and Food Festival, a visit to this spectacular place will be a memorable one, and paddling is a fantastic way to experience it”.

Southern Cross Kayaking will return to Dunns Swamp for the school holidays from Friday 19th September and will stay for an additional week until Sunday 12th October for those prefer to visit outside the holidays. They will be back again in December for the summer break. At other times, they offer guided kayak tours at various locations across the Sydney area.

Cindy and John recommend booking to avoid disappointment, particularly on weekends. For information or bookings call 0439 936 480. They may be out paddling, so leave a message and they’ll get back to you.
